| Born
in New York City, he began his formal art training
in Manhattan at the High School of Art and Design,
where he majored in photography and illustration.
In 1973, Mr. Pierce attended the
School of Visual Arts in New York City, where
he majored in painting, sculpture and photography.
During that time, he was privileged to study with
such notable artists as Louise Bourgeois, Jennifer
Bartlett, Hannah Wilke, Paul Waldman and Jonathan
Borofsky. He graduated with a BFA degree in 1977.
He continued to paint and sculpt during that time,
and also did independent study at The Art Students
League in New York.
Since moving to Boston, Mr. Pierce
joined the Boston Afro American Arts Association
(BAAAA), and has exhibited with them in shows
throughout New England, including their annual
Art in the Park show in Copley Square.
He has had numerous one-man shows
in Dorchester, Jamaica Plain and Roxbury, and
with the artists of BAAAA, participated in Carol
Carter’s arts-for-youth program, “Splashes of
Color”.
He was also co-founder of the
now defunct Boston Metropolitan Arts Guild (BMAG)
and is currently president and founder of the
African Winter Gallery in Dorchester, MA.
